As the year draws to a close for us at New York Habitat and for our clients around the world, we look forward to the coming year of travel, helping students and people relocating for work, and launching our New York and London sales departments!
But before 2019 begins, we’ll celebrate the past year and the new beginnings promised by the year to come! In the spirit of the New Year’s holiday, we’ve rounded up the best celebrations in each of our four cities to launch 2019 in style. And in the spirit of new beginnings, we’ve also picked out a top-reviewed furnished apartment in each city, with special highlights about what makes it great and the thoughts of our past tenants to inspire you to make the leap to a new city in 2019. After all, there’s no better time than the present to live your dreams in New York City, Paris, London or the South of France, especially when the present is a new year!
Rockin’ around the clock this NYE in NYC
It goes without saying that New York City is one of the most famous destinations for New Year’s Eve in the entire world. Around 1 million people gather in Times Square to watch the famous crystal New Year’s Eve Ball descend down the One Times Square building at the stroke of midnight. Leading up to midnight, there are musical performers and celebrity hosts emceeing for the event, and at midnight, there’s a small fireworks display over the square.
If you want to participate, you’ll have to get to Times Square early on December 31 and stick to your spot—we have more info in our past New Year’s Eve guide here! However, if you just want to see a fabulous fireworks display, you can head to several spots around the city: Prospect Park, Central Park and the New York Harbor all launch fireworks that are viewable from multiple locations. Of course, there’s always the option to stay out of the cold and watch the festivities from your apartment’s couch as they’re broadcast on television as well!
If you’re looking to make the move to NYC this year, we think the time couldn’t be better to rent this 1-bedroom furnished apartment in the Upper East Side. The apartment will become home quickly thanks to its tranquil, no-fuss decorating style and its traditional features like exposed brick and hardwood floors. You’ll really feel like you’re in New York thanks to its easygoing style! Plus, the apartment makes the transition to New York super simple—it’s conveniently located in the highly desirable Upper East Side neighborhood, which is well-connected by subway, borders Central Park, and is just a few stops from the center of Midtown!
Past tenants have loved the apartment as well, rating it five out of five stars, praising the “cozy, clean apartment,” the “calm neighborhood” and the convenient location. Tobias, a former tenant, even declared it a “Perfect stay!” Interested in seeing how it can be the perfect new apartment for you? Head to our website and use the reference number NY-16166 to make a request.
Paris bursts with bright lights and big energy on New Year’s Eve
Paris New Year’s Eve celebrations tend to be a bit quieter than you may expect, but only in noise level! The city of Paris actually enforces a strict no-fireworks policy on New Year’s Eve, saving the explosive displays for Bastille Day in July. However, that doesn’t mean Parisians don’t know how to celebrate! There are several places you can gather for a good time on New Year’s Eve: The Champs-Elysées hosts the biggest and most famous party by far, with a fabulous laser light show on the Arc de Triomphe. Expect large crowds, as more than 300,000 people are expected to turn out annually.
Of course, there’s also the famous Eiffel Tower! You can gather on the Champ de Mars to watch as the Eiffel Tower is lit up with its glittering light display at midnight. For the most non-traditional, you can hang out in the Sacre Coeur plaza in Montmartre. The gathering in the plaza is the most laid back of the three events, but there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area to take the party further into the night, including the famous Pigalle district (home of the Moulin Rouge) right nearby.
If you want to become a Paris local this new year and enjoy the City of Lights every night, this 2-bedroom furnished apartment in Le Marais is for you. The apartment has the classic Parisian style you’d expect from a historic district like Le Marais—the wide, sunny French windows and beamed ceiling are all signature details of a Paris apartment, so you can get the full local experience. The kitchen is outfitted with all the modern appliances needed to cook any meal that would draw a foodie to a city like Paris!
What’s more, our friendly New York Habitat apartment owner, Sylvie, is there to make your transition to a new life in Paris easy. She has been described by past tenants as “helpful and friendly,” and Garcia, a past tenant, declared that she “was very helpful and we are really grateful for all her attention.” At New York Habitat, we mediate between owners and tenants to ensure you have the best stay possible. Take a look at this apartment (PA-4099) or submit a request and we’ll find the ideal apartment and landlord in Paris for your needs.
London lights up the new year
London hosts its own spectacular salute to the incoming new year among some of its most famous and recognizable attractions: Big Ben, Westminster Bridge and the London Eye. The Mayor of London presents a raucous fireworks display every New Year’s Eve in Westminster, and entrance to the main viewing area of the display is ticketed.
However, fear not, there are still chances to get stunning views of the fireworks even without a ticket! There are numerous river cruises you can book on the Thames that will pass right through the action (some of the cruises are even designed for viewing the fireworks), and there are also plenty of restaurants throughout Westminster that have a roof deck or large windows for viewing the display. Additionally, the display will be broadcast on BBC One, perfect for viewing from your apartment with a cup of English tea.
Is London calling your name for all of 2019, beyond just the New Year’s celebrations? This studio furnished apartment in Hampstead is ready to become your new home for the new year. The apartment is practically designed with London living in mind—it maximizes limited space with a multi-functional queen-sized designer sofa bed for daytime living or sleep. It also comes with a full-sized separate kitchen with a dishwasher and a washer/dryer, a rarity in a studio apartment, and a backyard garden space to boot.
The garden is an element of the apartment that you’ll be particularly inclined to use, as past tenants have praised this apartment for its peaceful atmosphere. Nancy, a past tenant, says, “Despite it being close to the tube station and grocery stores, etc., it was in a quiet, green, tree-lined street.” If you’re looking to maximize your London experience, but maintain a lower cost and steer clear of the most bustling parts of the city, this studio (LN-24) may be a great option for you.
Celebrate on the sand in the South of France
The South of France is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world thanks to its mild climate and varied terrain between mountains and the sea. Life tends to move at a slower pace in the region, and is all about savoring the finer things, so it’s no surprise that the celebration of the new year is a quieter but still joyous affair! One of the best spots to ring in the new year in the South of France is in Cannes. The resort city hosts a free fireworks display over the Bay of Cannes, meaning that you can watch the sparkling display from the beach! Additionally, celebrating in the South of France gives you the perfect excuse to toast with some champagne, a world-famous export of the area.
Because of its diverse list of destinations and things to do, the South of France is best experienced with ample time on your hands, which is why renting a longer-term furnished apartment like this 4-bedroom villa in Aix en Provence is a smart move. The villa is stylish and functional, providing 4 bedrooms for varied sleeping arrangements, a large open living area for any occasion, and luxury amenities like an in-ground swimming pool in the backyard, a working fireplace, and stunning views of the backyard and garden thanks to the panoramic windows in the living room. Even if your escape is only for a month or two, this villa is committed to making your stay a luxurious one, thanks to the grocery service, cleaning services, and childcare services available. Why not start 2019 with a bang by living locally in a beautiful destination like Aix en Provence?
