Neighborhood:
Considered "the new SoHo/Tribeca" by many New Yorkers, DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is the energetic artistic 24-hour community located at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. Just 5 minutes from downtown Manhattan, DUMBO, has millions of square feet of space housed in landmark buildings on cobblestone streets, a vibrant history and stunning views. The city of NY recently landmarked this entire unique neighborhood.
For years DUMBO has been known as one of New York's artistic and cultural centers, with events like the annual Art Under the Bridge Festival, cultural venues such as St. Ann's Warehouse (foremost avant garde theatre venue in NYC area), and White Wave Dance. Also many galleries, bookstores, cafes, restaurants, as well as countless fine art, photography, fashion and design studios. The area has become a hotspot for furniture design stores and showrooms (vintage and new). DUMBO has emerged as one of the fastest changing areas in New York City. This mix of uses combined with the creative energy of the neighborhood has made DUMBO one of the most sought-after commercial and residential neighborhoods in New York City.
A short 10 minute walk from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and the
surrounding brownstone nieghborhood. Walk to Montegue street for even more
options in dining and shopping.
From all over the DUMBO area can be found dazzling views of the lower Manhattan skyline, the statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the East River - quintessential picture-postcard view of New York - have been the inspiration for film directors, fashion stylists and photographers for years. With the sun setting behind Manhattan or the lights of the city and bridges twinkling at night, even the most jaded city-dweller can't help but be wowed.
The existing riverfront park and children's playground,, an extraordinary rarity in New York City, is an undiscovered jewel, a secret spot to relax and take in the stunning scene. Biking around the area is easy and fun.
Neighborhood attractions like the renowned River Café, Grimaldi's Pizza, and Olga Bloom's Bargemusic enjoy immense popularity, drawing regular patrons from Brooklyn and Manhattan, as well as visitors from around the world.

We [were] satisfied [with] the apartment we rented. [The apartment in Brooklyn] was [as] the photos showed it: luminous, large and pleasant to live in. We also appreciated the location in Brooklyn, near Manhattan, but with [its own] character. |

The apartment rental in Dumbo [Brooklyn] was everything we wanted. The owners were friendly and helpful and were there to greet us and arranged for somone to come back with our security deposit before we left. All instructions for how everything in the apartment worked were left in a handy reference file along with information on the immediate area and tourist information for the city. |
