We really enjoyed this vacation rental. Some light renovation works would be necessary: windows closing, blinds, etc. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Sep 09 2015 |
Thank you for staying with us, Guy! We are located in a Manhattan historic district so it is a very long process to get permission to upgrade windows. We just found out this week that the city approved our window replacement and so we will have new windows installed over the winter. |

This is a mediocre neighborhood when you stay with a child, even if the person who came the next day to collect the money told us otherwise. It could use some major renovation works. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Aug 03 2015 |
We live here with our family of four children, and we love it. There are many lovely restaurants, parks and cafes, all of which are warm and welcoming to children and families. We have lived here with young children for the past 10 years. Having lived in many Manhattan neighborhoods this is our favorite area and where we have chosen to raise our young family. Harlem isn't for everyone, but it is the right place for us. It is a beautiful, multi-cultural place. I am happy that most of our guests love and appreciate our neighborhood. |

Positive points: the apartment is well located, next to public transportation, in a nice and very charming Harlem building. Very clean condition. To be improved: the windows facing the street are hard to open, there is no curtain on the bedroom window, and the common areas smell bad. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Jul 19 2015 |
Thank you for staying with us, Nadege. We agree that our charming building is in an excellent location. As we are located in an historic district, we are unable to change our original wood windows -- they are sticky, but unless it is very humid they usually open and shut properly. The bedroom window does not have a curtain because it has wooden shutters. I apologize if you didn't realize that there are shutters which can block out the light in the bedroom. Finally -- we have a downstairs neighbor with a cat, and occasionally you can smell her cat as you walk past her apartment door in our common hallway. Unfortunately there is nothing that we can do about this, and we recommend that people who are very sensitive to cats look elsewhere for accommodation. Thank you again for staying with us. |

This apartment is located in a townhouse, in a quiet Harlem street, a 15 minute ride from Times Square. This old building has cachet and offers a complete change of scene. |
Answer by: New York Customer Service Jul 24 2015 |
Thank you for sharing your feedback! With regards to the shutters, in the pictures, we show that there are only curtains, not shutters. Shutters are less common in the US than in some other countries. Glad to hear that you had such a great stay! |

In a great location, this accommodation is ideal for a family and enables you to become more familiar with Harlem life. Besides, the subway stations being close by, you can very quickly reach Midtown and Times Square, right in the heart of Manhattan. The hosts' book is a mine of information and the welcome is great. We had an excellent stay and thoroughly recommend this vacation rental. |

We didn't meet the owners but the person in charge-very kind and helpful. A few repairs needed in the apartment but it is a very nice apartment and perfectly adequate for a short stay. |

Very pleasant, quiet apartment. Perfect for 4. The proximity of 2 subway lines was a great asset. Thanks to the hostess for the good addresses and her very nice welcome. The neighborhood is very pleasant. Going to Harlem Shake is a must! If you wish to attend a mass, make sure you get there very early, there are many tourists... in short: an unforgettable stay. |

Very nice apartment with all the amenities we were looking for. The location is excellent and the proximity of the subway is a big asset. The neighborhood is quiet with all facilities are close by (supermarket, shops, restaurants). The hosts are very helpful and responsive, and willing to offer their assistance. |

Great value for money, an old, typical Harlem apartment, well situated, yet rather badly soundproofed. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner May 06 2014 |
Thanks so much for staying with us, it was a pleasure to host your trip. Our building is old and historic, and from time to time you can hear our upstairs tenants as they walk through the building's central hallway -- we always ask our guests to keep the noise down and be respectful of others, but we can't always control that. |

The apartment is very well located in the proximity to the subway, shops and restaurants. The landlord is very nice and helpful. |

Thank you for the review. I am surprised you felt that the apartment was worn; we never had complaints before, but I guess its a matter of preference. I am sorry you felt that the apartment was not as clean as you would have liked. |

The hosts are very friendly. We were five and we spent a one-week vacation in this apartment and wanted for nothing. We thought the neighborhood was quiet and nice to live in. |

We have no complaints whatsoever about our stay. The apartment was perfect for our family stay and we loved the funky Harlem neighborhood. The subway was right around the corner and the owner left great suggestions and tips for grocery shopping, local attractions etc. |

The bedding was comfortable; there was no iron and no hair dryer. It's not convenient to have the bathroom on the landing. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Aug 04 2013 |
Thank you for staying with us. There is a hair dryer and an iron in the wooden closet in the bathroom. I'm sorry that you didn't see those. I put my phone number on a bulletin board so that guests can call me if they have questions or can't find things! We have now renovated the apartment and the bathroom is no longer on the landing, it is incorporated into the apartment. |

The accommodation is great and comfortable. Only big downside: a very strong smell of urine in the building staircase and in the apartment. We had to open the windows for a long time for the smell to go a little. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Aug 12 2013 |
Thanks for your review! We are happy that you liked the apartment. We just renovated our floor plan so that the bathroom is enclosed in the apartment's interior hallway -- we think it is a nice improvement to the space! |

Vacation rental in Harlem at the level of 125th St, 2 min from the subway. Quiet location. Classic brownstone house from about 1880. The material is fine for the old house. The house and the accommodation have a great atmosphere. No luxury but absolutely fine. There is everything you may need. And the host is very friendly and helpful!! |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Jun 05 2013 |
Thank you, Alexandra! It was a pleasure to host your stay in New York and I hope that we see you again soon. |

Bathroom is rundown. A lot of dust in the apartment. Renovation is inadequate even though the accommodation is lovely. Unbearable smell of urine in the kitchen. |

We appreciate your review, Nathalie. We regret that you will not recommend our apartment. We endeavor to provide clients with value for their money and this modest apartment is certainly for those who are not really looking to splurge. |
Review by: Ursula H., Oct 30 2012 From: Germany, Accommodation Rental: 4 days |
We enjoyed the apartment atmosphere and location very much. A good point is that it seems quite easy to find a parking space in the street. The subway is within easy reach and besides, if you want to go on a Grayline bus tour, there is a stop uptown that is quite near. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Nov 07 2012 |
Thank you Ursula. We very much enjoyed having you stay with us. Since your visit we have renovated the apartment and now the floor plan has changed so that the bathroom is incorporated completely into the apartment -- it is no longer on the landing. |

Well located apartment, close to the subway and in a quiet neighborhood. It has everything you need in terms of kitchen equipment and linens. A microwave would be nice, and it is unfortunate that the TV is not hooked up to cable. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Sep 24 2012 |
We enjoyed having Freddy stay with us. We have a TV with a DVD player, and we provide movies, but we do not have cable. However, we have fast wifi available to guests and many guests use their own computers or hook their computers up to the TV to watch shows. |

Very kind and super friendly host, responsive at all times, no problems in the summer, an extra fan would be helpful. Kitchenware equipment (dishes, plates) could be checked the shower and towels, too. |
Answer by: Accommodation Owner Aug 22 2012 |
We enjoyed having this guest. We had a very hot summer in New York and so we are putting more fans in the units. We usually stock the apartments with place-settings for 6, we will increase that to 10. |
