The apartment is good, very quiet, in an excellent location. The host's service was also very good!

Positive experience of landlord and his efforts to correct things as they happened.
Only two less favorable things: dogs barking all day long during a few weeks on the second floor and need of a kitchen fan if to be able to cook in the kitchen area.

The building owner was great. He helped us with whatever we needed. The location is great close to restaurants, laundry, and transportation. On a quiet street in Chelsea.

Helpful and kind landlord, respectful of our privacy. The building is in a wonderful, convenient area. The building is well equipped and nicely furnished. It is perfect both for a short and a long stay. My roommate and I have lived here fives months while studying at the Fashion Institute Technology. An absolutely positive experience!

The stairs and the handrail to reach the apartment were in poor conditions, the walls are fading, the wood is almost broken. It looks neglected

This was my second stay and again I have to say it was fantastic, the apartment is even better than on the photos. The communication with Blaise, the very friendly and helpful owner was just perfect!
This time also the internet worked fine.
As I stayed in the hot New York summer I have to add that even for the many people from abroad who don't like aircondition it was a perfect climate in the rooms. If needed I used the well working airconditions in both rooms, but most of the time, especially in the bedroom I just enjoyed a cool fresh breeze from the big fan on the ceiling that ran totally silent. It can't be better, many thanks to Blaise for his hospitality and for offering that great apartment at an absolutely reasonable prize!

The apartment was very quiet, very clean and everything you need daily was there - one can see that the owner cares about details. Also the furniture was beautiful, partially antique and much better than in average short term rental apartments. The matress is excellent. The historic building is beautiful and the stairways have some old Paris charm. The Wifi, as mentioned in other reviews was not the best, but during my stay it has been repaired by a technician and since then it was working well. The neighbourhood is very nice, with many shops restaurants and several subway lines in walking distance.

overall the experience was good. wish the internet connection was better. the only wifi available was a small access point in the hallway shared by all the tenants. would have been nice to either have ethernet cord access in the apartment (to have a direct connection) or have a separate access point for each floor. you could also tell when the owner or the building manager was in the office because the internet would stop working. it would have nice to access to a vacuum and not have to ask for one.

the owner was really nice but sometimes difficult to get in touch with.

The owners are very hospitable and do their best to ensure you enjoy your stay. It is very quiet. The kitchen space is not very convenient. The Internet connection is patchy and needs to be improved.

It would be good to be able to phone everywhere in North America or other continents the same way we could in Europe.

Thanks for your comments Philippe - we're glad you enjoyed the quietness of the apartment.

The kitchenette (as the apartment listing indicates, this is not a separate kitchen) in the apartment is rather small, but there is little we can do to change that without major demolition. If you have any suggestions about layout of appliances or other kitchen supplies, we'd love to hear them. NYC apartments are known for their pocket-sized cooking areas, and there are no doubt ingenious ideas out there to make them more practical (for the people who don't use their ovens for storage!)

We had installed a WiFi repeater on the fourth floor to improve the internet signal, but this died a few weeks back, toward the end of your stay, and we are in the process of replacing it. One of the problems in NYC is that with the density of apartments where everybody has their own WiFi, there is a lot of interference (you can usually see several dozen available networks). The main base station downstairs supports the shorter-range (and less crowded) 5GHz frequencies, but it doesn't really reach the top floor. The new repeater that will replace the failed one will offer 5GHz as well as 2.4GHz, offering a better internet experience for guests with devices that can use 5GHz, and at least a reasonable one on 2.4GHz.

We also have some ethernet over power-line adapters that use the building's electrical wiring for interference-free internet connectivity, and we will explore using this - however it would only help for devices with wired ethernet ports, and those devices typically have larger antennas that have fewer problems getting a WiFi signal - phones and tablets are the devices that have the most WiFi problems.

As for the land-line phone restriction to local NYC calls, I'm afraid we will not be changing that policy. Most of our guests bring their own cell phones and make minimal (if any) use of the land-line phones we provide (we even considered getting rid of them before Hurricane Sandy, when they were the only phones that worked).

However, a few years ago we had guests who ran up a phone bill of several hundred dollars worth of operator-assisted calls international calls and for this reason we have blocked all toll calls. For our guests without cell phones, we recommend getting a pre-paid phone card (available at nearby convenience stores and generally throughout NYC) - these allow you to call a toll-free number from the land-line phone (and sometimes pay phones as well) and make long distance and even international calls at very low rates.

Best regards,

Alexander

Owner seemed hard to get in contact with, but were helpful enough. Apartment itself was in excellent condition. No complaints. Fridge seemed weak, items would sweat when the AC was off.

We have replaced the refrigerator in apartment 4B with a new one that is better sized for the apartment and which has a tighter seal on the door gasket, the primary cause of condensation ("sweat") in refrigerators.

To improve communications with guests and tenants, we have prioritized handling of calls from the apartment land-lines, and (if provided to us) their mobile numbers. Calls from these numbers will ring through directly to both owners' mobiles, so that we can respond in as timely a manner as possible.

stairs and hallway need to be repaired - apartment itself was in great shape and we loved the apartment, but the stairs leading up to the apartment were cracked and the walls need wallpaper or something - we would definitely stay again regardless -
