This light-filled three bedroom duplex apartment is situated on Manhattan's Upper East Side, home to many iconic New York celebrities, ranging from Woody Allen to Michael Bloomberg to Madonna. The apartment is spread over the 3rd and 4th floors of a 5-story brownstone building (considered the 2nd and 3rd floors by Europeans). This walk-up building is situated near the intersection of East 84th Street and 1st Avenue, not far from Carl Schurz Park and the East River Esplanade, allowing you to enjoy nature in the midst of the Big Apple.
This duplex has both modern and prewar elements, combined to maximize utility and charm. The decorative fireplace in the living room is a reminder of the brownstone roots of the building, while the kitchen is full of stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher! There is also a washing machine and dryer in the closet across the hall from the kitchen.
The layout is quite unique, with two of the bedrooms connecting to each other via a spiral staircase. This does limit privacy, as there is no formal door between the two smaller rooms, however it is convenient for families and more intimate groups. The master bedroom and the living room both have three windows each, allowing in plenty of natural light; the bedroom overlooks a backyard garden area while the living room faces the street. The living room is elegantly furnished with a seating area near the decorative fireplace and a large dining table near the kitchen. Please note that the sofa in here is not a convertible sofa bed, but it could be used as an extra sleeping accommodation.
The area surrounding this three bedroom unit complements the apartment, being situated on a tree-lined residential street. Around the corner is 1st Avenue, which has a Starbucks and other cafes, restaurants and bars. When you don't feel like cooking in your state-of-the-art kitchen, then you can choose from the nearby creperie, sushi, French or Italian restaurant! The Carl Schurz Park is just .2 miles (about 350 m) from the apartment, and borders the East River Esplanade, which is a great place for joggers or for enjoying the view onto Queens and Brooklyn. Of course, the Upper East Side is known for its famous "Museum Mile" on 5th Avenue, and indeed the Metropolitan Museum of Art if just .7 miles (approx 1.2 km) from this apartment (as is Central Park!).
The nearest subway line is at 86th Street and Lexington Avenue, 1/2 a mile (about 850 m) from the apartment, and has the benefit of making both express and local stops. The 4, 5 and 6 lines can connect you to Grand Central Station or take you to Harlem and much more!
