Apartment is pleasant to live in and the bedroom inevitably large to feel good and comfortable in it. However, you have to anticipate the fact that the sitting room is dedicated to the owner Marcia only and as result is not really usable. Which means that objectively speaking, you live in one and same room, i.e. the bedroom that you rent. The owner Marcia is particular yet not unkind you need to be open-minded to get used to her. Nevertheless, I had a very nice stay in this apartment and its location is a dream as it is located near the Hudson River and right in the heart of West Village, whilst not being disturbed by the noise there can be.

Thank you for your review Marine. We are glad to hear you found your bedroom to be comfortable. The owner may be using the sitting room differently from time to time so we have updated the information on the website. It is great that you enjoyed the apartment location near Hudson River in West Village.

The apartment location is prime and provides easy access to the West Village and the Hudson River Path. The apartment itself is very spacious and both rooms have a nice amount of space. The closets were especially spacious and can hold a great number of clothes. The bathroom is nice generally and so is the kitchen. The laundry is a bit annoying because you have to exit the building and go around back but I would change annoying any day for in-building laundry. The home itself is decorated eclectically. There is a unique smell that smells a bit like turmeric that was not exactly pleasant as soon as I entered the apartment. The apartment is also full of rugs which can be annoying to manoeuver because they move everywhere. I had the smaller room and it was generally nice. My main complaints were that the room had some unfinished furniture for the desk which was not ideal. I never used the AC because it required removing this cardboard box and the box covers not only the AC but a small opening to the outside which I did not like because bugs and rain breeze could come in easily. That forced me to always have the fan on which was not too much of a problem but if you crank it up to the maximum level it makes a loud sound. In terms of the host, I spent the first half of my short stay living alone which was unexpected but very nice. Once the host returned, we generally had a good relationship, I often was not at home so we would miss each other frequently and when we did see each other we very much ascribed to a laissez-faire attitude of greeting and moving on with our respective tasks. I will say, however, the first week or so requiring adjusting, the host did go into my room a few times without permission which I did not appreciate but fortunately the host stop doing that after a week or so. The host also ate some of my food from the fridge which may have been an accident. The host also had some peculiarities about home life with resulted in additional chores (taking out the garbage every day, always closing the shower curtain), and the way they were expressed felt like a parent scolding their child. That week or two was not ideal but the situation quickly improved. Generally, I would recommend this place if you want to live in the West Village for an affordable price.

Hi Daniel,

We appreciate your candid and straightforward feedback and we have already taken measures to fix the desk, AC, and fan that you mentioned. The AC is now functioning and properly sealed, the desk is newly finished and enlarged, and the fan no longer makes noise due to a bit of WD40.

Apologies for the apartment not being decorated to your taste, the rugs are a necessity for CoOp noise rules.

As for taking the trash out every day, we will be sure to add that to our initial 'house rules'. Entering your room 'without permission' was in order to turn off the noisy fan that you left on, and the food was an honest mistake. I?m a bit surprised that your review was that thorough!

All in all, thank you for your positive review! If I understand correctly. Other than the few minor interpersonal hiccups, you found the apartment to be spacious and in a prime location.

As for your concerns, I wish you felt more comfortable reaching out to me with any and all of them. You had my number, and I offered to fix the desk before you moved in, but unfortunately, you gracefully declined the offer.

Thanks again,

Nick

Marcia was the best host I could have asked for. I had moved to the city just two days after graduating college for work and she made Washington Street & Barrow Street feel like home. Marcia was welcoming, easy going, but also let you know the dos and don't of her apartment so there never a misunderstanding. Her son, who lived in Brooklyn, invited me out for flag football games on the weekends as most of my friends had not moved into the city yet. I will always remember the 6 weeks I spent living with Marcia and I will also be grateful for her hospitality, kindness, and help.

Small things: Very clean, big room, plenty of personal space, 5 minute walk to 123 Subway line, grocery store around the corner, laundry in the next building, tons of greats bars and restaurants (you're in the west village so pretty solid), basically on the Hudson!

Probably one of the best location to live in the West Village. For the most part quiet despite being close to the Hudson River and West Side Highway. There's a visible view of the Freedom Tower. The apartment is old. The walls are very thin and you can hear what's going on above and below and from room to room easily. The owner was very nice but it took some adapting to her personality over a long period of time.

Jeff, I agree with everything you wrote. My apartment has a great location. I love the area. Many prewar buildings are not constructed the same way of modern cemented and steel buildings however I have to agree that prewar buildings are usually charmed. And finally I do not think it's personality differences but cultural and regional differences that we need to adapt to. I enjoyed very much having you around and I learned a lot with you.

Marcia is the best landlady/roommate one could hope for. She is kind and sensible and honest. She'll be straight forward with you in such a way that would make dishonest people uncomfortable but she only means well. She says it 'how it is' as a true New Yorker would.

The location couldn't be better, you'll be in a quiet apartment block close to everything, great transportation, you'll almost be too spoiled about how good the location is, people will envy you.

The apartment building however is cheap but that cannot be helped and is the norm for most modern buildings and anyways in New York you are supposed to be out most of them time enjoying the sights and sounds.

Marcia is hard working and will go out of her way to help you and make you feel comfortable if you ask her. She is a true and honest soul with a great laugh. The beds are sweet.

I really liked this place a lot and I felt home. My roommate was very nice, caring and sweet, it was a pleasure to stay with her.

The location of the apartment is just great and the neighborhood is the one of the best in New York City. Hudson river is just around the corner, as well as a supermarket and plenty of nice bar's and café's.

I definitely would go there again!

I can only say good things about renting through New York Habitat. Your service was very good, the reactions very fast and everything worked perfect.

I was also very happy with the choice of the roommate apartment. It was extremely cozy and comfortable and I felt at home as soon as I arrived. This was, beside the room and the apartment, definitely also because of the really nice roommate. She is a completely nice woman and I had a wonderful time there.

I would also recommend the Neighbourhood to every visitor of New York.

Thank you again and have a good day!

I enjoyed staying in my New York apartment share. The people were very welcoming, I felt like I was part of the family. The apartment was clean and I had plenty of space to put my kitchen stuff and my room had a very comfortable bed.

I would definitely stay there again if I had the choice.
