This charming and fully-furnished studio apartment in Butte-aux-Cailles is a fantastic option for students and professionals alike, as it resides in the 13th arrondissement, a calmer part of Paris than the city center, yet still beautiful and near the Place d'Italie metro hub. Located off the intersection of the Rue de la Butte Aux Cailles and Rue Barrault, this apartment is perched on the ground floor (known as the 1st floor in U.S.) of a four-story walk-up building. Included in the building is a coded security system for residents.
The main room is uncluttered and furnished creatively to ensure maximum walking space, with a mezzanine providing a small office area. Lovely in appearance, it features a full-sized Murphy bed, which can fold into the wall to make more room, as well as a cable television. Cabinets, dressers, and bookshelves line the walls, holding a collection of books as well as providing some storage space. Placed on the wall to the side of the bed is a large north-east facing window with view of the garden, a great place to reflect upon the day's events. After climbing a short ladder, you will find the office mezzanine, which can be used, however, one cannot stand upright due to the low ceiling here. Back downstairs, the open kitchen provides much of your cooking necessities. This includes an oven, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, dishwasher, and small fridge with freezer! You can eat or prep food at the open bar area. The basic bathroom is tiled in warm tones and includes a shower, toilet and fresh towels.
The 13th arrondissement, also known as “arrondissement des Gobelins” is a more suburban section of Paris on the outer left bank. There is plenty to discover here – though it won’t be the typical Paris attractions shown on television! In Butte-aux-Cailles you will find landscapes of gardens, squares, and almost rural radiance. Here, an artist may find inspiration for a novel, painting, song, or poem. Cobblestone streets lead to unique cafés and boutiques- and you will be hard-pressed to find a chain store! From this apartment, take a leisurely walk to Manufacture des Gobelins, a tapestry factory-turned-museum best known for its role as the royal factory of Louis XIV and other monarchs (a little over 1 km or about .7 miles away). Also within walking distance from the studio is Place d'Italie, a gorgeous square featuring the town hall for the 13th arrondissement, situated at the northern end of the Rue Bobillot. If you like to dine out, there are many Chinese restaurants in area, as well as more traditional brasseries nearer to the Place d'Italie. If architecture and history excite you, travel to Gare d'Austerlitz, an impressive train station named after the famous battle fought by Napoleon in the Czech Republic region, as well as good option for trains in and out of Paris.
To reach other sections of Paris, walk to the Corvisart metro station serving Line 6 (just 450 meters or a little over a quarter mile away) or 250 meters further to the Place d'Italie station, which serves the 5, 6 and 7 lines.
