Overall, the apartment was as expected and the listing was worth the rent price (especially given how expensive NYC is). I appreciated that amenities including sheets and towels were provided. A few things to note:
- You will not be able to stand up in the loft area. It also gets extremely hot up there and AC doesn't reach it. Buy a fan. The kitchen ceiling is also very low, so I would be careful if you are taller than ~5'10"!
- The furniture is quite cheap. I had to add reinforcements when the wood on the couch started splintering, tables were wobbly, knobs fell off, and generally things are not very well-constructed. I recommend having a drill/screwdriver/wood glue on hand if possible. If you need a desk or dedicated work space, this is probably not the best place to stay. I worked from home and did most of my tasks on the couch.

Harlem is a great neighborhood with a lot of history, but as a solo woman, I did have moments where I felt unsafe. I was frequently catcalled on the street near Whole Foods, and once a man attempted to grope me. Excercise vigilance and don't make eye contact with men. The other tenants in the building were very friendly, though. There is also a lot of connectivity to subway and bus routes, which makes accessing other parts of NYC easy from this location. Grocery stories, coffee shops, and pharmacies are nearby.

During the last week of my stay, Victoria (landlord) sadly passed away. She was a wonderful woman, and I'm sure all of the tenants will miss her very much. Thank you to everyone who made my stay pleasant!

First and foremost, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience living at my home. Although I do my best to make each tenant stay comfortable and enjoyable, there are things that come with being a homeowner that are beyond my control and I always worked expeditiously to repair any issues in a timely manner. Your remark about the furniture being cheap, is a matter of taste. I know that I only purchase items that I personally would use myself and know the quality is far from what was previously mentioned. I think it's worth stating that the photos online clearly show a studio apartment with 14 ft ceilings. This space is limited to a sofa, book shelves, an eating counter and two benches. Desk space was never advertised or guaranteed.

Regarding the safety in and around the building and its surroundings, this is beyond my control and appreciate you sharing this information. I am sorry that you experienced this, but I work to provide a clean, well maintained building with tenants who have been screened and approved by me personally. I wish you the best and appreciate you providing feedback, may your future be bright.
