Apartment Share Rental: 4 months

Let's start with the good points. The apartment is very well kept by the cleaning agent who comes once a week, and the maintenance agents react quickly when requests are made about a maintenance need. The bedding is clean and comfortable. The accommodation was well placed for my needs, and all the necessary shops were within a 5 to 10 minute walk.
Secondly, I think that compared to the prices of other accommodations in New York City, the value for money is good. However, as a French woman coming to live in NYC for the first time, I found the $1600 per month for a room very expensive. Especially as the accommodation itself had a lot of problems. My room seemed to have been made from a partition added to the living room. Because of this, the ceiling light in my room came on from the same switch as the lamp in the living room, which was very problematic. The furniture was inexpensive, which is understandable, but everything was rickety and uncomfortable, except, as mentioned above, the bedding. When I arrived, I had to have the bathroom lock and oven repaired. The fridge also broke down during my stay, and a back-up fridge was provided, but only two days later, due to the combination of a Sunday and a bank holiday. Well, they made the best of it... but it's still not very serene. The apartment is also poorly soundproofed, but with air conditioners installed in every window, which are very useful in summer, it's hard to beat that. Another thing: there are no external locks on the bedroom doors, so you have to be able to trust your flatmates. I didn't have any problems with this, but it could happen.
Still, the accommodation met the criteria absolutely necessary for a long-term rental, for a price that was certainly high, but not that high compared with other accommodation.

Thank you for your detailed review, this always helps us to improve our service.
As you mentioned, we offer a maintenance service where our tenants can contact our operations department about any requests.
We always process the incoming requests as soon as possible.
We are currently upgrading the furniture in our apartments, as normal wear and tear with the tenants living in the apartments is normal.
New York is a loud city and we do our best to soundproof the apartments as best as possible, so far we haven't received any other complaints about it but we take this seriously and will look into it if there are ways to improve it.

For the application process, we are going to look into whether there are ways to simplify it, but we can definitely assure you that this is normal procedure and we ask for standard documents of all our applicants.

We would love to host you again whenever you are back in New York.
