From: United States,
Apartment Rental: 29 days

Apartment was furnished with Ikea quality furniture. Kitchen appliances all worked but we were advised not to dry our clothes in dryer as it was expensive to run and we were charged for electricity. Dishes and cups were old, unmatched, and some chipped. The wooden floors were cracked and broken at the entry and in kitchen and need repair. Living room rug was old and worn. Ceiling was blistered and stained over the shower. Bed was small and a single mattress over a wooden frame. One couch in living room was the only comfortable seating. The internet was fast and reliable. The owner was very responsive to questions, helped us call a taxi on last day. Overall, we felt the apartment needed renovation but was inexpensive by Paris standards.

Dear Marla and Cory,

I understand that there are some cultural differences between our countries and this is the reason why I am going to provide you with some explanations.

The bed, the mattress and the box spring are all new. It is a true bed with 4 storage boxes underneath, it is extremely comfortable and useful. This is a 1.40 meters bed, which corresponds to a standard double bed in France. You will hardly ever find a bigger bed in a hotel. I am sorry if you felt squeezed in it! The apartment may be more suitable for less heavy people.

After you left, I bought some Sté-Sté white china plates that are brand new but also irregular (according to the brand style). They replace the flowery plates that you may have not liked. The blue china bowls are more beautifully crafted than the plates - if you knew how they were made of, you would knew that handcrafting causes these baking "marks". I try to decorate this apartment in a unique way but there are indeed some unavoidable Ikea elements.

The recent kilim carpet is neither torn nor worn. Kilims are hand-woven carpets and not hand-knotted. It is made of wool and not synthetic - it is a "living" carpet. This is a small apartment (31 square meters). There are a few pieces of furniture: Ikea ones, family ones (chairs, candelabrums, mirror) or modern ones (Surpil chairs, Gras lights). Besides, I just bought a new AA red chair that sits in the living area.

I asked you to open the bathroom's window after taking a bath because the previous tenants did not do it and this causes moisture on the ceiling. Wall paintings are generally in excellent condition - it has been done three years ago - but light beige may not please everyone, even though it is a neutral tone. Following your comments, the entrance parquet floor has been remodeled, the bathroom's ceiling has been repainted and the towel rail has been replaced.

Like all machines, you need to empty half of the washer-dryer to dry your clothes. It is time-consuming and very noisy. It would have been easier to go to the Laundromat next door - as I advised you - where you can dry your clothes in 10 minutes for only 1 euro. I also put in a new heater in the bedroom for added convenience.

The apartment description mentions all the necessary information: surface area/dimensions, as well as electricity fees. I hope you enjoyed this quiet and comfortable apartment (dishwasher, bath, printer, etc), as well as its pretty balcony overlooking this charming Parisian neighborhood.
