This vacation rental is located in the penthouse duplex apartment of a beautiful five-story building (equivalent to the American 6-story) dating from the 16th century in the city of Avignon, Provence. Renovated and refurbished in 2004, the historic character of this two bedroom accommodation has been perfectly preserved. The building entrance features an intercom/buzzer and elevator that goes to the 4th floor (access to the 5th floor is via stairs). There are also laundry facilities in the apartment as well.
Exit the elevator and find yourself standing in a spacious hall that acts as a winter garden. On this level you will find the two bedrooms. Bedroom 1, designed like a master suite has a queen sized bed, two French windows, a flat screen television, closet and a bureau that has a pull out desk feature. Through this room there is a small space that houses the laundry faculties. Off of this room is Bathroom 1. Tiled in black and white, you will find a tub with shower unit, a full wall mirror that hangs over a sink with long vanity, and an electric towel heating rack. Bedroom 2, accessed through the laundry room, has a sofa bed that becomes a double bed. There is a skylight window in this room.
Up the open spiral staircase brings you into the living room and kitchen area. The cozy living room in this vacation rental has a row of windows overlooking the Popes Palace, a local landmark. Enjoy the view from above next to the decorative fireplace on ones of the sofas or chairs in this room. Open to this space is the fully equipped kitchen. In the kitchen you will find light wooden cabinetry, which compliments the sunny atmosphere of the space. In this eat in kitchen there is a double sink, 4-burner stove, microwave and dishwasher plus all the dishware you would need to prepare meals.
Head outside to the terrace that has amazing views of the rooftops of the city. This terrace offers a lot of privacy and is in partial sunlight thanks to a greenery-covered pergola. Under the pergola is a teak dining table with seating for 4. A parking space is available for the tenants, which proves useful since this section of the city is made up of charmingly narrow and windy roads, sometimes making it difficult to find a place to park.
Avignon, also known as the Popes’ city, has a one of the most historical and artistic heritages in the South of France. Its formidable Popes’ Palace overlooks the wide expanse of the Rhône River plain and the encircled city, only 4 blocks away from the apartment. You will also find yourself located 2 blocks from the Place de l’Horloge, the main center of the city where restaurants, cafés and shops are everywhere. A good pick would be Lou Mistrau for a selection of dishes made with fresh produces from the area. When you are walking around make sure to try a piece of “Tarasque” cake, a local specialty. If you want to see one of the most beautiful views of Avignon and its famous uncompleted bridge, head to the island of Barthelasse, a short bus ride away. This large island was formerly a refuge for outlaws and deserters in the past centuries, but today its medieval architecture and exceptional view over the city is well known, and best seen at sunset. The city also hosts one of the biggest theater festivals in Europe every summer, attracting performers from all over the world.
Avignon is crossed by many highways, which makes it easy to drive back home. If you plan on coming to the city without a car, the TGV is a great option. With a station in the city you get to Avignon from Paris in less than 3 hours. If you prefer to fly there is also the local airport that has daily flights from Paris. More international flights here must connect through either Paris or Marseille.

We stayed in [...] a penthouse apartment in Avignon, for a week in late February. The apartment was exactly as represented on your website and we had a very enjoyable stay in Avignon. The owner of the apartment [...] who lives in the same building, was extremely helpful and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. |
