Very nice apartment, the owners are very kind and always there should there be a problem. The fully equipped kitchen is perfect and the bathroom is quite large, which is a plus. The bedroom is rather small but that suited me fine. The large wardrobe in the bedroom is really a big plus for the apartment, it allowed me to store my 3 large suitcases of clothes, which was great. I definitely recommend this apartment share.

The place was very cute and well appointed. the roommates were considerate and pleasant. Ivan did a terrific job responding to any minor issues promptly, and was always friendly and courteous. The bi monthly cleaning service was stellar. I'd stay there again with pleasure.

The apartment was great for a short stay! Ivan and Olga are lovely and easy to talk to. I didn't have any problem to have my deposit back. The house is clean, the bathroom is new and my bedroom was very nice. The only thing is that it is an apartment only to sleep in, meaning it doesn't have a living room to have some social life, you can't smoke and you can't have visits.
The rest was great!

Dear Patricia,

Thank you for your review. In order to have a good healthy environment for all our guest, we enforce the "smoke free building rule" to avoid discomfort among non smoking tenants, and further more to prevent fires. However, guest can smoke outside the house at the front stairs. In regards of your comment about visits, and to be clear, is not prohibiting having visits, guest always can welcome his/her friends at the apartment. As you mentioned the common area is very limited, but friends can socialized within this common space that counts with a dining table and 4 chairs.

Thank you for stay with us and be a wonderful and considerate guest,

Kind Regards,

Olga, Ivan & Jimmy.

I would rent with them if I go back to NYC again.

This apartment is comfortable and clean with all amenities (A/C, wifi, kitchen units, hangers in the bedroom...). If necessary, the landlady, who lives on the ground floor, is available, reactive, understanding and kind.
Neighborhood is average.
Good value for money, I would not hesitate to rent this apartment again if I come back to New York.

I loved staying in the apartment. Whenever I had a question or something was missing, the owner would provide it in no time. They were always happy to help and improve when things had to be improved. My room was not towards the street so it was nice and quiet, but I believe that even the rooms located near the street side have been fine too, regarding the noise. It only took me about half an hour to get into Manhattan, which is absolutely fine. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, people are very polite and will help you with directions once you move there. Everything is accessible by feet, laundromat, grocery store etc. is one block away, which was amazing once you come home after a really long day, and you just want to make a quick stop getting off or so. Thank you so much for letting me stay in the apartment. It was a pleasure meeting you! Until next time, Stephanie

All in all, the apartment is ok, the roommates are fine, the owners are
friendly and helpful, the only big problem to correct as soon as
possible would be the bedding! Too small for an adult and the mattress
is not fit for a person over 60 kg, it is too thin for a person around
180cm and 75kg: the stay was not pleasant because of that. But otherwise
it was perfect.

Answer by: Roommate Host
Sep 21 2015

Hi dear Romain, thanks to your review, we started implementing a platform instead of using wooden slats for a better support as well as doubling the mattress size by adding an extra mattress to each bed for a firmer comfort, regarding the mattress size we are actually using the standard American single size bed 39 in X 75 in (99 cm X 191 cm). But regardless the size of the mattress we gladly hear everyone's concerns about comfort as well as amenities in our home and we try our best to find solutions.
Kind Regards,
Olga, Ivan and Jimmy.

It is a very pleasant apartment and the owners are available if needed.
The only negative point is that the kitchen is the only shared room which is quite small and does not have a window.
This is a very nice apartment but it did not make me want to stay in it for friendly moments.

Dear Adrick,

We were so pleased with you at home. Thank you for all positive review and your conmstructive comments. As you mentioned, Common areas in the apt are limited in space but we provide the right equipment such as stainless steel appliances microwave, gas range and fridge all in outstanding conditions plus a round table that seats 4 people. We try our best to maintain spaces and properly maintained, the unit is checked at least 3 times a week for accumulation of trash and any encumbrance in the shared spaces, is our concern to offer a pleasant stay to anyone who stays at our place.

Olga/ Jimmy and Ivan

I loved staying at the apartment. It's clea and the landlord lives in the building and is always approachable. If there was a problem of any kind, he was there to help me figure it out. The area is a lot more intimidating at first but it turns out to be a lovely neighbourhood. The biggest advantage living in Bed Stuy are the cheaper supermarkets and the infrastructure. It took me only 30 min to get to midtown and 15 min to go to Wiliamsburg. The walls are pretty thin, but that is just a NY standard. If you have plausible roommates there shouldn't be a problem.

Dear Florine,
Thanks again for staying at our property, it's always a pleasure to have a tenant with a sense of responsibility and trustworthiness like yours, I'd like to mention a couple of things people like about this property:-Cleanliness, we are very concern about having and of course encouraging guests on keeping areas neat and free of clutter in the public areas, especially in the kitchen and bathroom.-Infrastructure, the area is considered a valuable historical part of the city, populated with beautiful 18th-19th century brownstones like ours, therefore keeping the original details in the house is a must, even though the amenities and appliances are contemporary, we try to preserve the originality of its main structure, unlike inside concrete partitions and floors used in most countries, the house interior characterizes of sheetrock walls and hardwood floors which meet New York standards.-Neighborhood, as mentioned earlier a historical area that preserves the architectural beauty unique in Brooklyn, minutes to Manhattan, Williamsburg, downtown Brooklyn, un upcoming neighborhood hard to beat in rental prices due to location and convenience shops with reasonable prices. We'd like to hear from you again and our house will have the doors open for any future stay.Sincerely, Olga

The apartment is very nice and the landlord and his family are great. Whenever I felt that something was missing, they tried to provide it (I asked for more cups and an iron and both was brought to the kitchen shortly after my request). The area is not the best and the landlord advised me to best be home before midnight to avoid any trouble. I usually came home between 1 and 3 am and even though there were still people on the street I never had any trouble.

As long as you are aware of your surroundings and know where you are going, you won't have anything to worry about. The street (or rather the people on it) can get pretty noisy at night but that is something you just have to deal with in NYC. Also, be aware of the fact that the commute to and from the city may take some time at night.

All in all, I am really satisfied with the apartment. It was a great experience staying there and considering the value for money, this may be the best place to stay in Brooklyn. I'm not a person that asks for much, but everything that I needed was provided and the apartment felt like home.

I highly recommend it to people with a low budget!

Dear Soren,

It was a pleasure having you in our home. You are a gentlemen. I think you misunderstood my recommendations. Bed-Stuy is a neighborhood in a continuous change and progress, the community is safe.

Nevertheless, you need to be aware of your surroundings not only here in Bed Stuy, in all the city of New York. NY is a fantastic city and my recommendation is to play safe anywhere.

Thank you for the apartment review, we will revise them and consider them to improve our services for future guest. Thank you.

The room and landlord were great! The room itself had plenty of light along with nice furnishings. The landlord was very accomodating: I was able to pay my rent using paypal and they were always willing to lend me a pot or pan when the kitchen didn't have what I needed.

Gaia, you were an excellent guest in our house. The soundproofing is something that would involve a major renovation at the house, for now we ask our guest to have more consideration with their peers at the apartment.

Friendly owner. 30$ per night for an extra person is inacceptable.

Answer by: Roommate Host
Mar 18 2013

Thank you for your comment Constantin. Since the first day, I told you we charge $30.00 for an overnight guest, but it is something we can arrange for long terms as we did with you. Your disappointment is a big surprise to me and I am sorry to read that. Your girlfriend stayed for 30 days then your friend for 15 days.

You gave me an extra rent of $450.00. If you make the math you paid for them only $10.00 USD per night in NYC. For this reason, we decided not to allow any extra guest in our home as of now on.

The rooms are designed to be used by one person and we want to go that way from now on. I hope you understand our position and that you enjoyed your stay anyway.

The view from the apartment is very nice and the owners are very kind and helpful people. However, the haus is incredibly badly soundproofed and as a result, you can hear every single step in the apartment.

The kitchen equipment is substandard so we bought quite a number of items ourselves at the beginning of our stay. There is certainly need for improvement here.

A part from that, it is a nice apartment to share with very friendly and willing owners. I think it will keep getting better in the future, after all I was one of the first two roommates.

Answer by: New York Customer Service
Jan 11 2012

The owner was thankful for the review and explained that they provide the regular items a kitchen has but if anything is missing, clients can ask.

They added that indeed the soundproofing is not perfect as the building is old, but whenever there is an issue, owners are open to dialogue so that the apartment sharing gets better and better.
