Neighborhood:
Located between Rue Saint-Antoine and Rue du Pas de la Mule in Paris, this furnished apartment is next to the royal Place des Vosges, hailed for the harmony of its architecture and famous for being the former residence of French novelist Victor Hugo from 1832 to 1848 (number 6). It is part of the special atmosphere enclosing the historical Marais area with its substantial number of points of interest, such as museums, art galleries, design shops, and diverse, trendy bars and restaurants. In walking distance from this accommodation are the Seine with its two delectable islands -- Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint Louis -- and the Hotel de Ville (city hall). Just steps away is the Rue de la Roquette, a street mostly frequented by young people.
The heart of this area is the historic Place de la Bastille, symbol of the French Republic. Built during the 14th century as a fortified royal residence, it is the most famous monument in Paris. The new Opéra House is nearby, considered one of the best operas in the world. The neighborhood features a number of traditional restaurants, cafes and open-air markets, such as the market on Place d'Aligre and one on Rue Richard Lenoir. Numerous cinemas are in and around the area.
Premises:
This 24m² (approx. 255 sq. ft.) studio apartment is located on the fourth floor of a well-maintained 17th century walk-up building that has kept its original wooden staircase. The main entrance gate is protected by a coded system and opens into a long corridor leading to a second door with an intercom, a security key and a concierge. This opens into the building's hall and the staircase.
The apartment has a western exposure and exposed ceiling beams. It was totally renovated in 2007.
Its entrance door opens into a hall leading to the bathroom and to the 18m² (approx. 190 sq. ft.) main room.
It has a parquet floor and a double-glazed window with curtains that overlooks the street. It is furnished with a combo sofa/double-size Murphy bed (155cm wide), a desk with a chair, a closet with double mirrored sliding doors, shelves and a flat screen cable TV. There is also a DSL Internet connection.
The open kitchen is equipped with four vitro-ceramic burners topped by a cooker hood, a combo microwave/grill oven, a small refrigerator, a coffee maker, a toaster and a kettle. There is also a bar with two stools.
The tiled bathroom has a large shower, a washbasin and, in a recess, a toilette and a washing machine.
The apartment is also equipped with a vacuum, an iron, an ironing board, a fan and a hairdryer.
Heat and hot water is electric and individual.
For convenient travel around Paris, the nearest metro stations are Bastille (lines 1,5,8) or St. Paul (line 1).

The owner is amazing, super helpful and prompt and speaks English! (and returns emails quickly which is nice!) The apartment is perfect for 1, especially given that Paris apartments are much smaller than US standards. |

Thanks for your nice review Kara, I am delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay. Some neighbors were noisy... They're no longer there... |

The owner was very helpful and was interested in how well the apt. worked for. She inquired several times to make sure we were doing well. The apt. is very clean and the other tenants were friendly. |
