Entertainment at the Palais des Congrès, fine dining and shopping all around Porte Maillot, and vast spacious green spaces at the Bois de Boulogne is what you will get with this cozy studio in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. An elevator and then a small set of stairs will take you to this 6th and top floor apartment (considered 7th by Americans) of an Haussmanian building equipped with a security system.
Though small (11 SQM or about 118 SQFT), this studio has all the essentials: a double sofa-bed, a kitchen equipped with all the necessities to cook at home, a dining table, and a wall mounted flat screen TV with DVD player to keep you entertained. The area rug adds color to the apartment and a warm feeling to the modern décor. The bathroom has a shower, sink and toilet.
What makes the 17th arrondissement of Paris interesting is its mix of residential and commercial areas, with three distinct areas: a working district around Place de Clichy, a higher end area by Avenue des Ternes (a few steps away from the apartment) and an old-town style village formerly called Batignolles. You can find this apartment at Rue Ruhmkorff & Boulevard Gouvion-Saint-Cyr, and here are some places of interest in the neighborhood:
- Palais des Congrès: if you want to catch a show or concert during your stay in Paris, you won't have to go too far! Simply walk down the street for about 400 meters (0.2 miles) to this venue, one of the most famous in the world! It also hosts some of the most renowned international events every year.
- Restaurants: dining options are numerous in the area. Da Franco, an Italian restaurant is right in front of your apartment. Walk down on Boulevard Gouvion Saint-Cyr and Boulevards des Marechaux and you will find many more serving all types of cuisine, from Japanese to typical French. Try out Le Sud restaurant (300 m / 0.2 miles) for some south of France specialties.
- Shopping: the avenue de la Grande Armée which links Porte Maillot to Place Charles de Gaulle houses large boutiques and famous brands such as Hugo Boss. On the other side of Place is one the world's most beautiful avenue, Avenue des Champs Elysées (1.1 km / 0.7 miles away) with more luxury stores and some more affordable like Zara or H&M. The avenue is also full of cafés and restaurants for you to sit down and relax after an afternoon of shopping!
- Bois de Boulogne: even more relaxing is the bois de Boulogne, with a main entrance near Porte Maillot, 650 meters (0.4 miles) south. This is the place where Parisians go to escape from the busy city and enjoy the vast green surroundings. Have a picnic there, ride a bike, or even fish! It will make you feel like you are far away from the city! If you love tennis, don't miss the Roland Garros tennis tournament held there every year. This huge park is also home to the Longchamp Racecourse (Hippodrome de Longchamp), a 57-hectare horse-racing facility.
To commute to other parts of Paris, walk to the Porte Maillot Metro station and take line 1, running east-west though the city center. It passes the Champs-Elysées, the Louvre Museum and many more sites. Alternatively you can take the RER C at the Neuilly - Porte Maillot station to its terminus station if you want to spend a day exploring the Château de Versailles!
