Pictures are very outdated. Seems like there was a very poor paint job at one point, specks of paint on the floors make it never seem clean. there was heavy water damage to the kitchen ceiling where the steam pipe goes to the third floor, which was never fixed. One of the two showers was broken from before I moved in, until I moved out. The bed was a wire cot, not a real frame with a box spring.

Thank you for your feedback Tyler.

The pictures on the website are current.

-Bad Paint Job: my first time painting an apartment myself and got my kids to help. I thought we did a good job because we haven't received any negative feedback up until this point but I guess things weren't perfect. Next time we will try to do a neater job.

-Bathroom: on the listing it clearly states 1 1/2 bathrooms because I would have to shut down the entire kitchen to fix the shower and I currently rent the apartment to all Chefs. How can you agree to the terms but complain about it when you leave?

-Heavy water damage: the heavy water damage comment is an exaggeration, the radiator was leaking from the room upstairs and no one brought it to my attention until now. One of the things I have to get adjusted to now that I rent rooms is checking the apartment more often and not leaving it up to guest to tell me.

-Bed: the mattress was purchased from ikea, it's not made with wire.

While I don't regret switching from renting apartments to now renting rooms, I can admit that the two are very different and I need to be more hands on. Some of the lessons I've learned over the past year are:

Don't assume guest will clean up after themselves. I recently hired a house keeper.

Don't assume guest will tell you when something is broken or leaking. I now do a walk through once a week.

Don't assume guest will tell you when things are broken.

I am implementing open communication channels to share feedback and for inquiries and complaints. This creates open dialogue for my guest to engage during their stay instead of feedback that may come off negative or insulting.

Thank you Tyler!

Great location, big/spacious rooms, neutral decor. Not all of the rooms have AC and while I was there only one shower was functioning because the owner refused to fix the other one. I would suggest to whomever stays here to keep every exchange with the owner in writing (agreements, discussions, receipts, etc). Furthermore, make sure to check if the room(s) and apartament are clean before you move in.

Hi Ana,

Thank you for your feedback! It is important for me to make every guest experience a great one.

The apartment does not have central air but the 2 bedrooms listed on the site have air conditioners in them. Also listed on the site is 1 shower. The shower in the bathroom downstairs is out of order and the reason I did not fix it is because I would have to take down the wall to get to the pipe and that would make the kitchen inoperable during the construction. Rather than shutting down the kitchen, taking into consideration that you and your roommates were chefs, I chose to shut down the shower.

Lastly I agree with your suggestion to keep every exchange with any owner in writing so that there is transparency between all parties.

Dear Ana,
Thank you for staying with us in NYC.
We updated our apartment's description based on your review. 1.5 bathroom is available as the 2nd shower is unusable. The owner will fix it as soon as the apartment will be empty.
Thank you again,
